When I was filming Mr. Riazati the other day he made an interesting comment about Twitter and Iran. He said, “Some people think Twitter saved Iran and but others think Iran saved Twitter.”

I’ve been having a lot of difficulty uploading my audio and video. Everytime I try to upload something that appears on my computer, it doesn’t appear when I choose to browse for a file to upload onto WordPress. I think it’s the case of the vanishing files!

The two main social networks that Iranians have been using to put out information have been Twitter and Facebook. On Twitter you can find updated news and Facebook is constantly being updated with photos and video, as well as information. People have also been creating Facebook groups, such as anti-government/peace groups.

As I have been developing my story over the past few weeks, the current news in Iran has been taking over the media. For fellow Iranians who have been trying to get out news and updated information on the political issues, as well as updated deaths, many turn to our popular social networks because they have no other way to do so since the government has taken away media and journalism.

I know I have been guilty of logging onto my site at work. I mean I used to sit in front of the computer 8 hours a day and it was almost impossible not to. I’m curious to know how many companies block these sites and how many monitor their employees?

As I have been randomly asking friends and family about what social networks they use and how often, most have at least 1 or 2 and log on everyday. One thing I noticed is that none of them seemed to think that it interfered with their lives. So what is normal and what isn’t?

-Staying on the computer for much longer than intended
-Making conscious efforts to cut back on computer time and repeatedly failing
-Hiding the extent of computer use from friends and family
-Using the computer as an escape when feeling stressed or depressed
-Missing events or opportunities because of excessive computer use

According to howstuffworks.com, the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association do not currently consider computer addiction a valid diagnosis.

Learning Multimedia

So it has been quite the challenge for me to learn how to navigate WordPress and produce multimedia elements. It’s amazing how much journalism and online has changed in the past few years and how much it continues to change.
